Ahmed Elwany started training in 2014 at UMA Academy in Ukraine. He took to it the way he takes to everything — methodically.
In 2016 he earned his blue belt under Professor Roberto “Cyborg” at Anubis Martial Arts Academy in Egypt. Then he came back to Erbil, and in September 2020 he co-founded Team Elwany alongside his brother Al-Hakam — as a blue belt, with a Renzo Gracie affiliation from day one. Most academies don’t launch that way. This one did.
In 2023 he earned his purple belt under Professor Rafael Costa at Renzo Gracie HQ in New York. He travels there many times a year. Everything he picks up at the Blue Basement comes back to Erbil with him.
