On December 5th, Renzo Gracie Team Elwany held a powerful belt and stripe promotion ceremony, recognizing the dedication and growth of its students. The event wasn’t just about new ranks — it was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and pride in how far the team has come.
Coach Ahmed Elwany opened the ceremony by emphasizing what truly matters in Jiu-Jitsu: professionalism, consistency, character, and how we treat others. He reminded the team that belts and stripes are not just awards for winning or showing skill — they represent commitment, progress, and being a role model both on and off the mats.
The ceremony was emotional, inspiring, and full of laughs — and each promotion carried a special story. Here’s a look at the athletes who were recognized:
Marcel – Stripe Promotion
Marcel was awarded a stripe for his evolving Jiu-Jitsu game. Originally known for a wrestling-heavy style, he’s become a more complete and technical athlete. Even when training abroad, his progress stood out to Coach Elwany.
Mehdi – Stripe Promotion
Despite juggling work and family responsibilities, Mehdi continues to show up, train, and lead by example. His consistency and quiet determination earned him a well-deserved stripe.
Alan – Two Stripe Promotion
Alan’s promotion was long overdue. Though his training was interrupted at times, his unwavering passion and return to the mats showed true dedication. Coach Elwany had been waiting two years to give him these stripes.
Rami – Two Stripe Promotion
Rami was promoted after an outstanding debut at competition, where he showcased both skill and sportsmanship. His performance in Jordan and relentless training made this promotion an easy decision.
zein – Two Stripe Promotion
Zain energy, commitment, and strong competitive spirit were recognized with two stripes. He played a key role in representing Iraq at the AJP Tour and continues to inspire others around him.
🟦 Hussein – Blue Belt Promotion
Hussein earned his blue belt not only for his technical progress but also for being a quiet ambassador of Jiu-Jitsu in other parts of Kurdistan. His calm presence and steady growth reflect the essence of the art.
🟦 Haval – Blue Belt Promotion
Nicknamed “Construction Grip,” Haval began as a powerhouse, but has since learned to apply his strength with control and technique. His transformation into a calculated, smart grappler earned him his blue belt.
🟦 Goran – Blue Belt Promotion
Once known for relying too much on strength, Goran proved everyone wrong. Through humility and hard work, he embraced the fundamentals and reshaped his game. His blue belt is a testament to real evolution.
More Than Belts – A Way of Life
The ceremony closed with a message: Jiu-Jitsu isn’t about belts, medals, or status — it’s about how you treat your teammates, how you carry yourself in life, and how you respond to challenges. Congratulations to everyone promoted — this is only the beginning.
