Team Elwany Makes History at AJP Tour Jordan: A Milestone for Iraqi Jiu-Jitsu

Team Elwany’s at  AJP Tour in Jordan marked a defining chapter for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Iraq. For the first time, three young Iraqi athletes — Mohammed Abdulkereem, Rami Al Jubory, and Zain Al Jubory — stood among some of the world’s most dedicated competitors, carrying the banner of Renzo Gracie Team Elwany with pride, grit, and humility.

Mohammed Abdulkereem, entered the championship as a newly promoted blue belt, facing seasoned opponents in a higher division for the first time Previously ranked #2 in the Men’s Amateur White 23-24 division during the AJP Tour 2023-2024 season. Mohammed faced new challenges as he competed for the first time as a blue belt. His participation underscored his dedication and the rapid progression of his skills. Though he did not place on the podium this time, he gained something more valuable: experience, insight, and the fire to come back stronger.

Rami Daood, only 19 years old, delivered an outstanding debut performance across both Gi and No-Gi divisions in the Men’s Amateur White / 62kg category. His performance cemented his position as one of Iraq’s most promising talents. In Gi, earn the Gold Medal and in No-Gi, he secured Silver Medal ending the season ranked #1 in Iraq in the Men’s Amateur Grappling division.

Zain Daood, only 16, entered history as the first youth athlete from Iraq to compete abroad in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He fought with heart and walked away with a silver medal, a monumental achievement for his debut. Zain concluded the season ranked #2 in Iraq in the Youth White 16–17 category—a ranking that speaks to both his talent and his future potential.

Guided by Head Coach Ahmed Elwany and assisted by Professor Ali Alabed, the team’s preparation was intense and methodical, building up their confidence and sharpening their technique. This competition wasn’t just about medals—it was a declaration: Iraqi Jiu-Jitsu is here, and it’s growing stronger with every match.
